Paris Saint-Germain have not always been European giants, but since an initial golden age in the 1990s, they have built themselves into a globally recognised club.

Since current owners Qatar Sports Investments purchased the club in 2011, they have become a bona fide European powerhouse, boasting financial and football might.

Yet for a significant period of time PSG struggled to secure the silverware that would solidify that status, rendering them mere pretenders on the global stage: the UEFA Champions League.

The Sporting News takes a look at PSG’s record in Europe, trophies won, finals reached, and other performance indicators.

Have PSG won the Champions League?

Up until recently, PSG had famously never won the UEFA Champions League, something the fanbase and front office were both desperate to change.

That all changed when the French club trounced Inter Milan 5-0 to win the 2025 Champions League title, giving the club its first-ever European title.

Having become accustomed to dominating the French top flight over the past decade, PSG craved more than just domestic supremacy. They wanted to be kings of Europe.

They reached the final in 2020 but fell 1-0 to Bayern Munich on a Kingsley Coman goal in the 59th minute. It was a particularly cruel blow given Coman had developed at the PSG academy before leaving the club in 2014.

Thus, the 2025 triumph was an extremely emotional one, as they set a record for largest margin of victory in a Champions League final.

PSG record in European, international competitions, UEFA finals

Prior to winning their first-ever Champions League crown in 2025, PSG did still have one European trophy to their name, having secured the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1996, beating Austrian club Rapid Wien 1-0 on a goal by Bruno Ngotty in the first half.

That qualified them for the 1996 UEFA Super Cup, where they were beaten decisively by Juventus 9-2 on aggregate across the two-legged competition.

They have contested four UEFA finals of any kind, including three prior to their recent UCL title: the 2020 Champions League final, 1996 Cup Winners’ Cup final, and 2001 Intertoto Cup. They won the latter — a now-defunct tournament with multiple winners — on away goals after a 1-1 draw with Brescia, although it’s not considered a major European trophy.
